About

My name is Rhonda Havig and I am a reader, writer, and pancreatic cancer survivor. I have a BA in Communication from Stephen F. Austin State University (go Jacks!) where I studied mass media, advertising, and English. After holding different sales and marketing positions, I moved into the information technology realm where I stayed beginning in 1999.

2021 brought a surprise in the form of pancreatic cancer. While the illness does not define me, it is still a part of my life and affects me in different ways. I look forward to defeating it and moving on to inspire others as a long-term survivor.

One upside of the cancer is I got bonus reading time during chemo infusions. I love to read! Check out my reading page to see some of my favorite authors and books.

My love of reading eventually turned into a love of writing. I wrote my first novel during National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) in 2015. Like any other first draft, it was crap. It is now on version three and getting much better.

In addition to revising my first novel, I write short stories and do some freelance writing. See my writing page for links to my online pieces. Another previous NaNoWriMo project is waiting patiently for its turn in the revision spotlight. I also recently shifted my career from the technical realm to be more on the creative side with writing, storytelling, and managing web content.
