We received the official pancreatic cancer diagnosis on March 24, 2021. This disease has a low one-year survival rate, which terrified me a year ago (still does). So I am thrilled to pieces to still be here on March 24, 2022 to say:
I am a one-year survivor!
This has been a strange point in this journey (hell, this whole thing has been bonkers). Each day lately has been, “well, one year ago today we were…” Thinking back to how sick I was and all the shit that happened — external biliary drain, dehydration, kidney stone — makes me thank the maker that I got through it.
On top of that, I’ve been cancer-free on my scans since ending chemo. Woohoo!
Thank you again to everyone who has been there for me and my family over the past year. I can’t even tell you all how much all the support has meant to us.
The plan is to keep going and be a 40+-year survivor. Along the way, I promise to not take a single minute of my life for granted and do my best to make a positive impact on the world around me during whatever time I have left on this planet.
The next big milestone is my Whippleversary on April 27. As part of that celebration, my family and I will take part in the PanCAN’s PurpleStride on April 30 in Cincinnati. Please consider joining Team Not Null to walk with us or make a donation to support PanCAN.
